One Dream 04:35
White clouds over the water Some drops aren't in the sea I'm sure they love being higher Smiling down on me One moment shallow, effortless The next it's past your chest No reason to rest or to celebrate I'll soon be a castaway I've gotta wake up from my slumber And see that I'm living the dream No, what they tell me won't force me under If I keep my head up I can breathe One moment shallow, effortless The next it's past your chest I guess I'll take just one day Hope it won't make me a castaway
2.
You tell me someday soon On a fairytale afternoon "We'll come together" As if we'd never been apart since the start Of this new life's adventure We'll dance beneath a blue sky But I don't know how long I'll wait for it (Am I waiting? How long am I waiting for?) I'm not young forever (I'm not young forever, there's a whole world to explore) And if we want our moment Until then we can't get Too close for comfort We won't recover And what will I do When you bring along someone new To love in the meantime? "Will I still be the first in line?" No I won't die Sighing from the sidelines Our perfect day is turning gray And I can't say that I'll wait for it Am I waiting? How long am I waiting for? Can I get through to you? (Can I get through to you with a closing door?) Ohh, if you want this moment Until then please don't get Too close for comfort We won't recover, no my lover No, we won't recover
3.
Stage Fright 04:56
Wanna win every time I find you near me It's like my luck dried up and now I'm a little weary Time comes to sing my song but something's gone wrong How to cure the stage fright, oh I can never decide (A small weight gets heavy when effort is unending) What's it take for you and I to be we? I don't know how much to try, so tell me what would you like? You're the one I desire but I can't get it right To save my life And I may know every line but why should it mean you'll hear me I take a step into light but then disappear completely Time comes to sing my song but something's gone wrong How do I cure the stage fright, oh I can never decide Well but maybe tonight we can both be surprised You're the one I desire, but I can't get it right To save my life You're the one I desire, but I can't get it right To save my life /

Wayfare 04:12
I've been traveling long as I remember I'm tired of believing somehow I am clever enough To eventually be seated in a gilded chair Celebrating that at last I've made it somewhere On this Wayfare The years grow shorter as I live them more, though I can't order bliss and joy to stay, and they go To a place I've yet to see is out there Could I ever reach it on this Wayfare? / Where'll you go? I know you'll make it far on your own Where'll you be when you travel long without me?

Thirteen 03:07
Not much, not too little Not fast, not too slow Still I'm trying to solve a riddle So I keep it simple Your face still won't show But I'm bound to clear the smoke Trust my intuition Unlearn all I know Still I'm running round in circles Zoom out till I focus I go it all alone But I'm bound to crack the code Show me the way Where you lead's where I'll stay You know the spring's here today and gone tomorrow I don't need a say So just take it away I pray you make it an easy path to follow I can't toe the line If I can't quite find it You run but you can't hide Soon I'll end the silence If you show me the way Where you lead's where I'll stay You know I think we could make it last forever But if you're too afraid To put it all on display I'll quit the craze and forget it altogether
7.
About Timing 06:04
I can't understand it no matter how hard I try You live on your own planet and I've been along for the ride If I'm being quite candid we were far from the finish line So why'd it change in one minute? "I can't explain, it's a dangerous game" and I won't play it If I can never win Oh how can this be reality? It's all so obscured, clearly Lately Saturn is my enemy It's always about timing So what's left to be abandoned? There's no part of me to find It's such a short trip from king to stranded So no more will I let this *subject* rule my mind (It's the last time) It always ends in catastrophe Disguised as a silver lining And lately Saturn is my enemy Time after time he's timing / [Saturn] Oh how can this be reality? It's all so obscured, clearly We know it's always about timing It's always about timing / Better late and free Than chained down and timely Best to stay on my own two feet
8.
How could I be made to think That light and free's not far from simple and easy, When all that can be seen In the wait for victory Is prowling, pacing, pleading to find a feeling That can't be? / I've never given, can't receive Like I'm lost at sea and none can reach me I've never given, can't receive Like I'm lost at sea and none can reach me What if I come back from here? What if I find my way? What if I live to tell some tale of how I'm here today? What if I'm empty? Or out of control? What if I'm lost here? What ever happens to hope? I watch it rise like the ocean Watch it rise like the ocean And float away Float away, away Even if it looks like it's here to stay I watch it rise like the ocean Watch it rise like the ocean And float away Float away, away
9.
Well, lessons take a little while Longer to learn these days Still a dreamer, not a sage How long till I act my age All I wanted was to see a smile Stretching across your face What a reckless dream to chase Guess I couldn't glean my own anyways It's the steepest price to pay Both betrayer and betrayed Cause darling, I couldn't send the rains away / It's the steepest price to pay Both betrayer and betrayed And darling, you couldn't send the rains away Couldn't send away the rains Couldn't send away the rains Couldn't send away the rains [Neptune] [Storm]

The Tides 04:42
[Stillness] So I guess again I can't make it match the plan I've come up short but not like this before Wanted the river but this is the sea Watched as I fell in the deep Can't trust me (Notice the tides when they're over Cause you'll miss the highs when you're older) Saw the moon up in the sky like a passerby Too soon for it to fly but it's gone in one night And through it all I used to never pay any mind If only I knew it was the thing controlling the tides I'd have taken my time through the morning And loved the light I saw before me And never lived a day ignoring The waters are all mine for exploring / [Exit]

about

Resulting from a songwriting workshop facilitated by School of Song and instructed by Robin Pecknold of Fleet Foxes, 'Wayfare' is the debut album by Denver-based baroque pop collective Better Weather.

The band formed when co-founders Skyler McCoy and Trevor Freed performed for their university's music school, and McCoy began writing songs soon after with the help of Pecknold's masterclass.

The record was self-produced and recorded by McCoy at age 19 and is packed with vocal harmonies, strings, french horn, oboe, and flute, in addition to the traditional folk rock lineup of acoustic and electric guitars, drums, bass, and keyboards. Its cinematic, youthful, adventurous charm takes on experimental forms.

'Wayfare' was reviewed by Toni Elton for New Noise Magazine: "Better Weather brings musical sophistication to an audience in a palpable manner... without limitations."
